A Love for The Craft
Spoon carving and Sloyd
About Rise Up & Carve, and Our Sloyd Code of Conduct
Who are we? Started in 2019, Rise Up and Carve (RUAC for short) is an informal, friendly virtual carving group. We use Zoom to get together and hand-carve spoons online. Rise Up & Carve has helped hundreds of carvers meetup virtually over Zoom.
Since February 2019 we have grown into an international community from all around the world, including carvers from the US, Mexico, Canada, UK, Germany & Austria, and Australia.
What is our Sloyd Code? This code is essentially our values and a few simple guidelines. As we cross so many borders and cultures we would like to highlight these here so anyone joining us will feel comfortable and know what to expect.
- Be nice
RUAC is fostering an atmosphere where people can feel happy and safe. A laugh and joke is great, but never at anyone’s expense in a mean spirited way.
- Be supportive
RUAC is an online community that offers support & encouragement to all carvers. We must stress that we are not a teaching platform and any advice offered is to be taken at your own risk.
- Celebrate differences
RUAC is an inclusive group where differences are welcome & treated equally.
- Please avoid contentious topics like politics and religion
Everyone is entitled to their views and opinions, however, to avoid possible disagreements brought about by such topics, we request that you talk about carving instead!
5. Family Friendly
This is a family oriented community – so please – keep your comments family and mixed company friendly. Would you be comfortable making the joke or innuendo to your parents and grandparents? In a grade school setting if you were the teacher and your principle were there? If not – please refrain.
